Hello CCQLD Members.
I hope you have all had a good summer. Autumn is just around the corner
and that means back to business for the politicians and government
agencies.
Scarborough
Councillors will be voting next month on the Quarry Development Plan
put forth by Build Toronto. Build tells us this plan is the same one
that we have been examining and debating for the past two years and the
one going to council next month is unchanged. There will be an
opportunity for interested parties to address council at this meeting,
but you must make arrangements in advance. Details are in the
attachment.
Getting
the go ahead from the city for the development plan is an important
milestone for our group, but it is by no means an end to our struggle to
keep high rise towers out of the Quarry Lands. The Build proposal will
cover approximately two thirds of the Quarry, but the threat on the
eastern portion of the lands remains real. GCD has OMB approval to build
20-25 storey towers there and could in theory apply for a building
permit at any time. We must remain united and strong if we are to end
once and for all, this threat to our community.
I
would like to remind all CCQLD supporters that membership fees are up
for renewal. Please make your cheque for ten dollars out to CCQLD and
mail it to Sybil Longley, 63 Woodland Park Rd., Scarborough, ON M1N
2X5.
Sincerely,
Tim Weber
CCQLD President
